National Conference

The college conducted a National Level Paper Presentation and successfully ventured into research with a topic that scintillated every soul in the nation – Demonetization.

The conference with ‘Demonetization – Prospects & Problems’ as its theme, witnessed participation from PAN India and beheld the presence of esteemed Chief Guests like Dr. S. T. Gadade, Dr. N.N. Pandey and CA. Shruti Shah; all renowned for their contribution in research in their respective fields.

The National Conference was thus an enriching and an enlightening chapter adding one more feather to Universal’s cap.

Guest Lecture and Excursions

B.Sc. – IT / CS:
Hearing new voices provides students not only with different points-of-view, but also with potential resources they can apply in future life. Keeping this in mind, a guest lecture was arranged on “Advance technology use in ASP.NET” by Mr.Rahul Tiwari from SDAC Infotech. Students of B.Sc. – IT / CS were taken for an industrial visit to Extentia &
IT Hub at Pune as a part of their curriculum.

B.B.I. & B.A.F.:
Guest speakers from industry have become an important part of educational experience for students. This helps them with an exposure to real world experiences of successful practitioners. Hence, guest lectures were arranged on the following topics:
“Understanding E-finance” was delivered by Mr. Purv Shah, from Bombay Stock Exchange.
“Financial statements Interpretation & Analysis” was delivered Ms. Deepali Kudva, CA.

B.Com.:
Another important learning benefit derived from guest speakers is, enhancement of educational experiences which results in students getting real world knowledge, insights and perspectives. With this in mind, a senior faculty Prof. Vijay Satra gave his valuable guidance to our T.Y.B.Com. students about “How to study and score maximum marks in the subject – Direct and Indirect Taxation?”
Our college arranges Industrial visits to Bombay Stock Exchange, Industrial organisations, Business Houses, Trading Houses to provide practical touch to the theoretical knowledge.

B.M.M. & B.M.S.:
B.M.S. and B.M.M. students visited Parle products factory in New Mumbai, Maganlal chikki factory at Lonavala and Sula Vineyard at Nasik. The larger aim of the visit was to make the students relate to the valuechain as followed by these companies. Value chain refers to processes and activities right from the sourcing of raw materials to the point where the final product reaches to the end user.

B.Sc. – Microbiology:
The Microbiology department had conducted one week training program on “Industrial Microbiology” for bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical training.
Students visited Govardhan Dairy at Pune as a part of their curriculum and gathered first-hand information about the working procedure. They got an opportunity to observe milk processing and manufacturing of dairy products.
An approach to explore and exploit uncultivable microbial majority has been the motto of our department. Our research team is working on the exploration of marine sponges, which are living depository of diverse marine microbial communities including bacteria, archaea, microalgae and fungi. We also focus on studies of gene organization and expression at the cellular and molecular levels in mycotoxigenic fungi. It emphasizes on inquiries into fungal cytology, biochemistry, physiology, genetics and molecular biology.

Maths Quiz

Quiz serves to measure the periodic retention of acquired knowledge and the effective application of critical thinking skills.

The IT Club Committee organized MATH QUIZ and GRAPHICS PRESENTATION for all the First year students to evoke logical thinking, reasoning and ability to utilize mathematics and computer graphics for the students. The Quiz format gathered their interest and students participated in large numbers. The winners were awarded mementos.

Convocation Ceremony

The Convocation Ceremony for the 2015-16 batch was hosted where the graduates were conferred degrees by Dr. Rangarao Bhogle who was our esteemed guest of that evening. It was a moment of pride for us to watch our students wear their graduation robes and convocation hats.

Dress Code Session

Clothes describe a person without words. The dress code is a component of corporate culture and clothing as a tool for business development is emerging.

Our third year students attended a workshop on professional dressing which gave them insight into appropriate dressing for various occasions.

 

Nature Club

The Club creates awareness on the hazards of modern-style-living on he environment through presentations, guest talks, poster displays, demos and participation in Bhavans’ Nature Fest and World Wild Life.

World Wetland’s Day

“Without water there will be no wetland’s – and without wetland’s there will be no water!”

Wetland’s for our Future: Sustainable Livelihoods was the theme for World Wetland’s Day in 2016. This theme was selected to demonstrate the vital role of wetlands for the future of humanity and specifically their relevance towards achieving the new Sustainable Development Goals. Students designed posters on this concept and made a genuine attempt to spread the awareness.

This cell conducted and steered Inter-class tournaments in carrom, chess and table tennis throughout the year. These were then culminated in the Annual Athletic Meet along with box cricket, rink football and athletic competitions. Students were motivated to take part in Best Physique, Archery, Football, Baseball and other sport for inter-collegiate tournament of University of Mumbai.

Terry Fox Marathon

Our college students enthusiastically took part in Terry Fox Marathon, a noble Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research.

Women Development Cell (W.D.C.)

The College has the Women Development cell established as per the provisions of Maharashtra University’s Act 1994. Every year, the cell organises lectures by social workers, government officials and police department on Women Empowerment for creating awareness among the girl students about the laws protecting women and prevention of harassment at the work place.

N.S.S. Activities:

General activities:

The college has an NSS unit of 50 students. N.S.S. provides an opportunity for students to interact with the socially oppressed and neglected segments of our society. This year, our students have conducted many activities:

  • Blood donation camp in association with Nair Hospital where 135 bottles of blood were collected,
  • Fire Fighting Training Program at Borivali Fire Station. Live demonstration was given by the officers and an exam was conducted after which the students were given certificates & I-Cards,
  • Distributed sweets and clothes to orphaned girl students, conducted road shows on environment and social awareness,
  • Attended an 8 days residential camp at Yusuf Meherally Centre, Tara. Students who completed 120 hours of work were eligible for 10 marks.
  • Organized a seminar on “Drugs, Alcoholism and Terrorism” in collaboration with  Goregaon  Police Station
  • Attended the 159th Foundation Day Celebration of University of Mumbai at Kalina Campus, Santacruz. The function was presided over by Governor of Maharashtra, and graced by Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Minister for Education and Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University.
  • Visited Assissi Bhavan (A Home for the Aged) at Goregaon (East) and donated boxes of biscuits, poha, rawa, oats and daliya. Our NSS volunteers conducted some activities like antakshari, singing and dancing which brought a smile to the faces of the elderly.
